Bamboo Labs is an award-winning social enterprise, all about building a future of accessible, affordable and sustainable mobility with one of the most sustainable resource of the 21st century: Bamboo. They use bamboo in a previously unknown way: creating bamboo wheelchairs and bikes, all locally sourced and locally made - Bamboo labs aims to meet a growing demand for sustainable and accessible mobility. Founded by young Ethiopian entrepreneur Abel Hailegiorgis, the company began its work by addressing a need for improved mobility for wheelchair users in Addis Ababa and has since expanded into making bamboo bike frames. Bamboo Lab’s mission is to come up with sustainable and affordable local transport possibilities and to create jobs that will strengthen the local economy, by using locally grown bamboo.
