A Backyard Marathon

A 20-foot backyard can be a valuable resource in times of Corona outbreak.

A 20-foot backyard can be a valuable resource in times of Corona outbreak. The former British athlete James Campbell has made the best out of curfews and social distancing, creating a successful donation campaign. The javelin thrower switched sport and ran a full 26.2-mile marathon in his tiny garden. It took him about 7,000 laps to reach the virtual finish line. Announcing the idea on Twitter, Campbell promised to run the backyard marathon if his tweet was shared 10,000 times. That number was more than doubled at 23,000 tweets before he started his race. Campbell was able to raise about 22,000 £ for Britain's National Health Service (NHS) to fight COVID-19.
